NAHI Forms Local Chapter The Heartland Chapter of the National Association of Home Inspectors is up and running. A group of local NAHI home inspectors has been meeting informally since October 2003 and we have now formed a not-for-profit state chapter of the NAHI said Dan Bowers, owner of Holmes Inspection Co. and the public relations director for the new chapter. The Heartland Chapter, which meets quarterly, has members from throughout Greater Kansas City, Topeka, Lawrence, Springfield, Joplin, and smaller Kansas and Missouri communities. Their shared aim is to improve and help standardize all facets of the home inspection industry in Kansas and Missouri. NAHI, founded in Minneapolis in 1987, is the nation’s second oldest and second largest professional association of home inspectors. The nonprofit association requires member inspectors to have completed 20 fee-paid inspections or an approved training course of at least 40 hours. Members must demonstrate experience and competence, pass a written exam and adhere to the association’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. “There are no college degrees offered in home inspection - and there is no single vocation or background that automatically qualifies someone… NAHI feels it is very important for a homeowner to choose a highly qualified professional home inspector,” Bowers said. The Heartland NAHI Chapter 2004 officers and directors are John Kurtz. Independence, Mo., president; Todd Kirkpatrick, Springfield, Mo., vice president; David Moriconi, Blue Springs, Mo., secretary; Justin Kurtz, Lee’s Summit, Mo., treasurer; Rick Shocklev, Independence, Mo., education director; Mark Adams, Joplin, Mo., legislative director; and Dan Bowers, Shawnee Mission, Kan., public relations director.
